Garner-Hayfield high school held their Coaches versus Cancer event on January 29, 2010 against Lake Mills. We used this as a Cancer awareness event and raised over $2600 that is going to the American Cancer Society and the Hancock County Relay for Life. Our game was billed as a "White Out" night. We had many events going on: we sold white T-shirts with pink lettering, we had a soup supper that was served by the Methodist Church, the girls basketball team wore pink uniforms and the boys basketball team wore pink shoelaces, we had a silent auction sponsored by two of our local Relay for Life teams, our Student Council sponsored paper airplane contests at halftime of the varsity boys and girls games (our Industrial Technology department made the targets!), we passed donation buckets to collect pocket change donations, we had an informational table with resources for people sponsored by the American Cancer Society, and we had Jenny Smith, from the American Cancer Society office in Des Moines make an awareness presentation at halftime of the varsity boys game. Overall, a great night for a great cause!
