At the August, 2010 Board of Directors meeting, the Board voted unanimously to end the 7 year program of the Select Teams as funded by the IBCA. This was a tough decision but it was the feeling that this program had run its course and accomplished what was intended, namely to provide an option for more Iowa preps to play during the summer and to improve their skills and possibly open doors for their college futures. With the explosion of summer teams and options, and the decreasing revenue stremas of the IBCA, this program was ended by Board action. We thank deeply the coaches that headed up these teams, the parents who were so actively supportive of the teams, an certainly the time, energy, and character of the many excellent people and players that associated themselves with this program over the years. |

Glenn Wilkes, legendary coach for 36 years as Stetson University, recently shared this with me. I think it's excellent advise for all coaches. I just returned home from a great summer of basketball. assisting with the Nike Skills Academies and the Michael Jordan camp in Santa Barbara. I observed some great in- struction at these camps and hope to share some of it with you in upcoming issues.
In discussions with coaches there, we came up with what we consider the TWO INEXCUSABLE SINS as a basketball player.
(1) Lack of effort (2) Lack of concentration
You as a coach must constantly be on the lookout for players who slip in these areas.
Good locker room poster material:
YOU MAY HAVE A BAD SHOOTING DAY, A BAD PASSING DAY OR A BAD BALL-HANDLING DAY, BUT YOU SHOULD NEVER HAVE A BAD HUSTLE DAY.
