Coaches vs. Cancer Pride Scrimmage between Linn-Mar and Marion was held
on November 20th and raised $1300. Admission was $3/adult and
$2/students. Fans were able to shoot 3 pointers at half time of both
the sophomore and varsity scrimmages and the cheerleaders did a "bucket"
run between the 3rd and 4th quarter of the varsity game We
want to express our appreciation to all who had a part in the event at
Prairie Friday night! Raising money is not the main objective C vs C HS
events but we all know it
helps in the fight. We raised $205 with the bball auction and
approx $880 with the 46 sec drill. Both schools Relay for Life teams
will be credited with approx $540 with these proceeeds going to the
American Cancer Society of Linn County. Please share this
with your school communities; almost $1100 is something to be proud of! January 25th: North Linn vs. Springville $1114 total raised; $557 will be credited to each schools's total for Relay for Life of Linn County
Knoxville : January 19 vs. Chariton $50,300!!!!!!!!
Riverside of Oakland raised $7,545 in their event, more than twice last year's total Benton Girls raised $1500
North Iowa Conference which consist of: West Hancock, Forest
City, North Iowa, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, Osage, Mason City Newman, and Lake
Mills, have been doing a Coaches vs. Cancer night the past 5 years. This is the
only conference throughout the state of Iowa to host this one night event. The
first year just over $7,000 was raised; year four was just over $17,000. The
goal for 2013 was $20,000, which we succeeded by raising over $26,000. All proceeds go to relay for life teams,
within the perspective counties.

The CWL basketball teams held their Panthers vs Cancer night on Febuary 6th and raised $1200. We sold T-shirts and took in donations for 48 seconds at halftime. Dunkerton boys and girls raised $4,017.18 with their Coaches VS Cancer event on Friday February 3rd with Waterloo Christian. We sold t-shirts, raffled off signed basketballs, did a loose change drive during the week with the winning class getting a pizza party, students had a chance to donate money for the opportunity to throw a pie in the face of their favorite coach, free will donation dinner hosted by the Booster Club, and collected money for 48 seconds at the third quarter break of the boys game. Algona Garrigan raised $2800 which went to the local Relay for Life chapter in Algona Knoxville finally got their total from January 21 vs. Chariton $41,350.00 The Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton Cancer Awareness night raised $2,478 The Cascade boys and girls team and the W. Dubuque teams raised $3140 for the state Cancer society in our Hall of Pride game at the beginning of the season. We took donations, had a basketball raffle, and sold tee shirts Hampton-Dumont and West Fork join forces every year to make Coaches vs Cancer bigger and bigger. This year we raised $1,015 during the 48 second bucket run and all together we raised $3,600. We sold t-shirts, had a 50/50 raffle, had a $1 raffle table and also sold temporary pink tattoos.... The Spalding Catholic girls basketball team ran a coaches vs. cancer event on January 31, 2012 in a game with Lemars Gehlen Catholic. Two Senior girls, Paris Schnepf and Alex Willman organized the event and did the 48 second bucket run earning $950.39.
Garner-Hayfield High School held their Coaches versus Cancer event on January 24, 2012 against Mason City Newman. We used this as a Cancer awareness event and raised $4998.87 that is going to the American Cancer Society and the Hancock County Relay for Life. Our game was billed as a "Pink Out" night. We had many events going on: we sold pink T-shirts, we had a soup supper that was served by a local Relay for Life team, the girls basketball team wore pink uniforms and the boys basketball team wore pink shoelaces and socks, we had a silent auction sponsored by two of our local Relay for Life teams, our Student Council sponsored paper airplane contests at halftime of the varsity boys and girls games and gathered donations for the Wall of Hope, and we conducted a 48 second drill. We had an informational table with resources for people sponsored by the American Cancer Society, and we had Michelle Gitzen, from the American Cancer Society office in Des Moines make an awareness presentation at halftime of the varsity boys game. In 2010 we raised $2679.77. In 2011 we raised $4143.54. Our event continues to grow!!! Overall, a great night for a great cause! |

Knoxville hosted Carlisle in a Boy/Girl Varsity Doubleheader. They raised $24,607.00! Southeast Warren girls basketball team raised estimated $2,700 on Friday January 21st. West Fork and Hampton-Dumont held a Coaches vs. Cancer game on Jan 22, with freshman, JV, and Varsity games being played. The two schools raised almost $4,100 by selling t-shirts, taking pledges, a Wall of Hope, pink bracelets, shoelaces, and pom-poms, as well as free will donations. This is up from the $3,000 the two schools raised in 2010. Fairfield raised over $6000 for Coaches vs. Cancer with t-shirts, a soup supper, a silent auction, and $1 from each admission going to the cause. South Hamilton girls' basketball and cheeleaders, raised $3675 by selling "Hawks for Hope" t-shirts, pink ice cream, paper basketballs, Coaches vs. Cacner pink wrist bands, pink ribbon tattoos, raffle items and a free will offering dinner. Benton Community girls raised over $1000 selling t-shirts , doing a 'chuck a duck" and pie throwing contest. Ruthven-Ayrshire raised $2400 to donate to cancer research. We held a black/pink out the gym nigh Diagonal Boys and Girls teams hosted Lenox and sold pink t-shirts and sweatshirts, along with the student council selling cupcakes and ribbons. They raised $ 4233.10 Elk Horn-Kimballton held their first event ever and raised $3413 through a variety of activities including cupcake sales, air plan tosses, and wrist band sales. Perry raised $1100 for their local chapter of Relay for Life with a Coaches vs. Cancer night on February 14th vs. Saydel. The crowd was silent for the 1st minute of the boys game to help ‘silence cancer.’ The crowd also wore white as symbol of the fight together against cancer. On Jan. 8th at a JV/V Boy's Girls double header (4 total games) v. Edgewood-Colesburg, Valley Community (Elgin) had a Coaches v. Cancer fundraiser that raised $1,400. The fundraiser included Pink t-shirt sales and a "Are You Man Enough to Wear Pink?" contest. Garner-Hayfield and Forest City held a Coaches vs. Cancer game on January 28 in Garner. The two schools raised $5643.00 by selling "Cardinals for a Cure" t-shirts, a silent auction sponsored by two local Relay for Life teams, a Wall of Hope, a pink airplane toss sponsored by the High School Student Council, cheerleader tattoo sales and a staff member raffling to wear a "tutu!" All proceeds from this event are going to the Hancock County Relay for Life. The Audubon High School boys' and girls' basketball teams along with the basketball cheer squad, dance team, their coaches and Wheeler fans changed the AHS school colors during their annual Pink Out to help benefit the American Cancer Society. With profits from Pink Out t-shirts sales, donated silent auction items, pink out cookies, pink hair ties and generous donations, the school district presented the American Cancer Society with a check for $2,000, which more than doubled their donation effort from last year. The event included special recognition of all cancer survivors in the crowd as well as a Pink Out light performance during halftime by the AHS Dance Team. The Audubon Lion's Club donated $1 for every meal they sold that evenings making their own $195 contribution in addition to the school's support of the event.

Riverside, Oakland raised $1,260 for Coaches vs. Cancer. Pella Christian raised $1100 in their annual event
Southeast Warren- raised $1700 for coaches vs. cancer Sioux Center raised $1000 for our local Cancer Society through our “Warriors Care”. One small step closer to a cure. North Linn - The boys and girls teams sold pink T-shirts this fall to raise money and took donations at the gate and totaled $935 dollars. The girls team wore pink uniforms for their game.
Lisbon -The girls wore pink uniforms and the boys wore pink warm ups. The boys coaching staff wore pink shirts and tennis shoes. Over $700 was raised through t-shirt sales, silent auction, and 50/50 raffle. Former Boys Assistant Coach Troy Anderson, who is currently battling rectal cancer, was honored in between games.
Knoxville raised well over $12,000.00 through a variety of ways. Pink T-Shirt sales, Quilt Raffle, Silent Auction of over 100 donated items, Pink Ice Cream and Cookies, Paper Airplane Toss, $1 from each paid admission. A local Bank donated Pink Rally Towels and the Bank employees volunteered at the concession stand
Cedar Rapids Washington weekend with City High generated $6,000 between the two schools The Algona girls basketball team and drill team raised over $1300 towards cancer research and the money was donated during the game on Jan. 28th, 2010. The Algona girls team wore pink uniforms with pink shoelaces, the Clarion girls team wore pink shoelaces, the Algona boys team wore pink shoe laces along with pink wristbands during warm-ups, the Algona cheerleaders wore pink uniforms, and the Relay for Life organization had a booth out by the concession stand with information about cancer. 
The Marion High School Boys Basketball Program raised $1,442.00 to donate to the Iowa American Cancer Society as a part of the national “Coaches vs. Cancer” fundraiser. They held a silent Auction and Paper Airplane Contest at the boy’s basketball games vs. Waterloo Columbus on Friday, January 29th, 2010. Dallas Center-Grimes reports that their CvC event raised $7000- Iowa City West Girl’s Basketball Program raised almost $1200 by selling t-shirts, having a bake sale, many raffles, and many other activities. Funds will be donated to the Hope Lodge in Iowa City. Dunkerton High School raised over $1170 towards Coaches VS Cancer. The money was raised using a loose change drive, raffle, and the cheerleaders sold pink and purple beads. The boys and girl’s teams wore pink t-shirts for warm-ups. Harlan Community raised $6200 at our pink out night. We sold t-shirts, raffled a television and had bake sale. Washington High School held a Coaches vs Cancer night in January versus Tipton. We raised $8,000 for the event. Both teams wore pink jerseys... 5 players shaved their heads ... Awesome night  The Audubon High School boys' and girls'asketball coaches Larry McNutt and Derek Sonderland, basketball team members along with the AHS Dance Team and coach Lynn Spies hosted an American Cancer Society "Coaches vs cancer" fund raiser on Thursday, Jan. 28. The Wheeler boys' and girls' basketball team's hosted the "Pink Out" facing off against the Villisca Blue Jays in hoops action. Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer. Both Audubon basketball programs sold pink t-shirts with all profits going to the American Cancer Society. In addition the Audubon Dance Team sold a variety of "pink" items including cookies, wrist bands and hair ties to add to the donation. Combined the Audubon coaches, basketball programs and Dance Team donated $644.73 to the American Cancer Society. The Coaches vs. Cancer initiative leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of basketball coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs. Coaches vs. Cancer provides critical mission outreach, while raising funds in support of the Society's lifesaving cancer research, education, advocacy, and community service efforts. This is the second year the Audubon basketball program has hosted a Coaches vs Cancer benefit. Last year Audubon basketball coaches and basketball program donated $413.22 to the American Cancer Society.

We used this as a Cancer awareness event and raised over $2600 that is going to the American Cancer Society and the Hancock County Relay for Life. Our game was billed as a "White Out" night. We had many events going on: we sold white T-shirts with pink lettering, we had a soup supper that was served by the Methodist Church, the girls basketball team wore pink uniforms and the boys basketball team wore pink shoelaces, we had a silent auction sponsored by two of our local Relay for Life teams, our Student Council sponsored paper airplane contests at halftime of the varsity boys and girls games (our Industrial Technology department made the targets!), we passed donation buckets to collect pocket change donations, we had an informational table with resources for people sponsored by the American Cancer Society, and we had Jenny Smith, from the American Cancer Society office in Des Moines make an awareness presentation at halftime of the varsity boys game. Overall, a great night for a great cause!
